Ghostwriting

Writing a book can feel daunting, but it's also an exciting and rewarding endeavour in which we have the opportunity to discover more about ourselves, and our place in the world.

Often, just the act of telling our story, in our own voice, can have a powerful and transformative effect on our lives.

A ghostwriter can help turn the burning story you always wanted to write into an original and compelling book that you can feel proud of.

Who is it for?

If you're someone with unique and remarkable life experiences to relate, and dream of writing a book but simply don’t have the time, or the writing experience, you might want to consider hiring a ghostwriter.

Any book you pick up will be the result of collaboration, and involves the combined efforts of numerous people, including a named author, editor, proof reader, publisher, designer, and yes, often a ghostwriter – though as readers we're rarely aware of this.

Ghostwriting can take many forms. I offer bespoke support to a range of people working on a range of projects:

  • You might be looking to write a memoir, inspired by your personal life

  • You might be looking to write an account of a private or professional achievement, or to share your experience and expertise in your particular field in order to build or transform your business

  • You might have an idea you’d like to develop, based on storyboards, or branded content, for example

How does it work?

We'll have an initial meeting to talk about your motivations and ambitions for your book, as well as answering any questions you have.

Once we agree to work together, we'll begin by having a series of interviews. These are an essential way for me to learn about what matters to you, the experiences that have shaped you, and what it is you want to say. Immersing myself in your world in this way is what will help us get to the heart of your story.

My role is to ask the right questions, and gather all the information needed to best represent your story.

Your book should sound like you, and express your perspective and opinions in your own voice. When I write on your behalf, I aim to convincingly capture the essence of this on the page in a way that feels true to the person you are.

I'll then take the time to digest and reflect on all our material, distil it into a narrative, and present you with an outline for the book.

My aim is to identify and emphasise the most fascinating aspects of your life experiences, as well as the most effective form and structure that'll enable us to best communicate your story to the reader. Sometimes, further research on my part is required to build and strengthen the narrative.

Over the course of writing the drafts, I'll be sending you regular updates, as well as chapters to review, and over time I'll revise and edit the manuscript till I feel it's finished, and you're happy with it.

Our goal is to create a book that's both engaging and relatable, and communicates your story in a meaningful way, taking your readers on a journey with you.

What you'll get:

  • A high-quality, professionally written manuscript that captures your story in your voice.

Who you then share your book with is up to you.

If you're hoping to attract publishers and readers, we can discuss various routes to publishing, which ones might best suit your project, and how you might go about pursuing them.

What I'll contribute to our collaboration:

While you bring the raw idea, I bring my writing expertise. As well as drawing on my skills in writing and editing, I'll bring my natural curiosity, my love of words and language, and a commitment to good writing and strong storytelling. You can be sure that your story will benefit from my experience, sensitivity, and professionalism.

Choosing someone to ghostwrite your book involves a significant investment – not just in time, and money, but on an emotional level, too.
In working with someone so closely over a period of weeks or months, from the earliest stages of a project to its conclusion, you want to be sure to find the right fit. It's essential that there's a sense of mutual trust, understanding, and respect.

Throughout our work together, I'll do my very best to listen without judgement, offering you the space to speak plainly, and bearing witness to that.

Re-writing
While ghostwriting most often involves writing an entire book from scratch based on interviews with the author, a ghostwriter can also help with rescuing a part-finished book project that's got stuck somewhere along the way.

Involving a mix of re-writing and editing, and often interviews or extra research, we can work together to develop your already existing material and get it into shape to see it through to its completion.
